There is no better feeling than waking up, grabbing your phone, and seeing that your own blog post is sitting on the Google Discover feed! It feels like hitting the jackpot, and in some ways it is!
For me, this happens all the time, but the thing is, if you want to get featured, you can. It just takes some know-how! In this quick and dirty guide, I’ll show you the exact playbook I use to get featured on Google Discover, how I milk the engagement loop (because I know you are an affiliate like me), and turn those views into revenue!
What Even Is Google Discover?
Let’s start with the basics. Google Discover is not exactly SEO, but it follows similar principles. It’s like the TikTok “For You Page” that recommends articles instead of videos. The platform is AI-powered, and it tries to match content with users who would best respond to that content.
The algo looks at the user’s search history, app behavior, location, and all of the other info it has on you and makes a curated selection inside the Google app (so yeah, it’s 100% mobile). This can help boost your share of organic traffic and boost your results in the long run. Since close to 70% of the traffic online is mobile, you should make sure your page is optimized for mobile completely!
Since the content featured can be about anything (trending topics, sports, recipes, stock market updates, videos, how-to guides, etc). You need to have quality content to even get featured in the first place. Google says that you need to “bring value to the user”, so you need to follow the “E-E-A-T” guidelines.
Pillar | What Google Wants | My Affiliate Reality Check |
Experience | First-hand proof you’ve done the thing. | Screenshots of my campaign dashboards, spending receipts, or a short video crush here. |
Expertise | Demonstrated skill or knowledge. | Case studies, data pulls, or “I spent $10k testing this” stories. |
Authoritativeness | Reputation in your niche. | Guest posts, podcast appearances, and yes, brag about your conference talks. |
Trustworthiness | Accurate, balanced, and complete info. | Cite sources, show both wins and losses, and avoid clickbait BS. |
Nail those four and you’re Discover-ready.
Should You Care?
Only if you like money!
- You will get free high-intent clicks from users that Google picked for you.
- Since you are showing up on the Google app itself, you will be matched with articles from big news sites and trustworthy pages, which gives you some authority and trust as well.
- All of the stats can be compounded, a little engagement and clicks will trigger the algo to push you harder, which will give you more engagement and clicks, which will make the algo push you harder, which will… You get the point.
Things to Remember to Get Featured
Besides observing the E-E-A-T guidelines, you can follow a few more tips to improve your chances of getting featured on Google Discover.
- Chase intent, not volume
Scroll to the bottom of Google SERPs, steal the “People also ask” questions, and answer them better than anyone else. Note what Google suggests and how they present that info; it should help you learn what they are looking for. - Headline like a human
I keep it punchy (“Facebook Ads Dead? Here’s Why”) and never promise what the article doesn’t deliver. You burn trust once, Discover buries you forever. You can use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Semrush, Ubersuggest, Moz Keyword Explorer, and more to find the right keywords for your headlines. - Use hero images
Make sure your creatives are high quality, engaging, colorful, and pop. Your hero image will be featured on the explore tab, so you need to make sure that it grabs the attention of your audience. Some specs recommended are: Minimum 1200 px wide, and set max-image-preview: large in the <head>. - Embed short-form video or Web Stories
Google loves Web Stories. You can repurpose TikToks into 15-slide Stories in under 10 minutes. - Publish on a schedule
I aim for two posts a week. Consistency trains the algo to crawl me right after I hit Publish. If you have a productive week, you should schedule posts in advance just so you stay consistent. - Add structured data
I slap Article, FAQ, and sometimes HowTo schema via RankMath, and crawlers eat it up. Also, make sure to categorize everything as the crawlers love it. - Speed matters
Sub 2-second mobile load, lazy-load images, and ditch every plugin you don’t absolutely need. Check with PageSpeed Insights after each tweak. Also, make sure it’s MOBILE optimized! - Watch the Discover tab in Search Console
If CTR dips below 5 %, tweak headlines or thumbnails. If impressions tank, refresh the post with a new angle and resubmit for indexing.
The Push-Notification Growth Hack (RollerAds FTW)
Unbelievable as it may seem, push notifications can actually enhance your Google Discover visibility, without harming your SEO or user experience. RollerAds can help you implement this hybrid approach and ease your entrance to Google Discover. RollerAds is a global ad network with exclusive traffic. They specialize in push notifications, pop ads, and direct clicks. These are some of the most common ad formats in the industry.
Combine push ads with messages (such as news, updates, or articles), and you keep your audience engaged and curious.
Once users receive a notification about an update on your website, they’re more likely to click, boosting your site’s CTR. Google interprets this increased engagement as a signal of valuable content and may feature your site on Google Discover.
When you get featured on Google Discover, you should get an influx of visitors, many of whom are likely to be first-time visitors. With the right approach, you can get them to subscribe to your push notifications, growing your base. As you engage them again and expand your audience, Google will promote your content even harder, making it a positive loop.
So, here is the neat loop I stumbled onto:
- User reads post → joins my push list.
- I fire a RollerAds push when I publish something new.
- Those subscribers rush back → CTR spikes → Google sees fresh engagement → Discover boost.
Roller ads really are the key to making it work here, though. The platform offers advanced tools and everything you need to monetize your website traffic. Just sign up as a publisher, add your site(s), and a dedicated manager will reach out to craft a strategy tailored to your growth and visibility goals.
RollerAds acquires 7 billion impressions daily and has 50,000+ advertisers in their roster already. As a publisher, you will be able to filter out those that you deem unfit for your audience. Try their ad network now to enjoy the top rates, full-scale support, and complete control over your website.
All things combined, when working with RollerAds, you can improve your website performance without sacrificing anything.
Monetizing Your Discover Traffic
Besides, you can monetize your Discover traffic with RollerAds’ user-friendly ad formats, no harm to SEO, no impact on user experience, just sheer revenue. In fact, one RollerAds case study shows a publisher scaling from $0 to $60 k/month just by layering pushes on top of organic traffic.
