How to Choose the MOST Profitable Google and Shopping Ads Niches for Your Ecommerce Business

Since I’ve met quite a few people who have struggled with this, I thought I might share with you a couple of tips on how to choose the best niches for your business, as well as some examples of broad yet great niches that are excellent for beginners.

Remember: What’s Perfect on Facebook Won’t Necessarily Work on Google

A lot of you are probably already aware of this, but I just wanted to remind you that just because a product/niche works great on Facebook, doesn’t mean it will be great on Google, too. Of course, if you have a product that sold really well on Facebook (in hundreds or thousands), it definitely makes sense to give it a try on Google.

In all other situations, it’s best to start from scratch and to some niche/product research first — if you’re planning to use Google Ads, that is.

What Should You Look for in Google Ads Niches/Products?

When searching for the right niche/products, there are three things that I’m always on the lookout for.

1. Functionality

When it comes to Google Ads, I always try to pick a product that solves a specific problem people have, because it’s easier to convince someone to buy a product if it helps them in some way. On Facebook, things are a bit different — you show people a cool video of your product, hype it up, and hope that they like it enough to go to your store and buy your product.

On Google, however, this approach doesn’t make a lot of sense, because people want to buy a product because they need it, not because they are too excited about it (like on FB). Plus, keep in mind that these people probably won’t even search for your product directly, but rather a solution to their problem. This doesn’t mean that sales aren’t possible, just that you’ll have to work harder to put your product in front of them as the best possible solution.

2. Higher Price

Shopping Ads have a profit margin of $0.30-0.40, which is why cheap products (below $20) are extremely hard to sell profitably on this network. What I’m trying to say is this: if you can’t get below those 30 to 40 cents (this happens with the US and really common products), how are you going to sell a $20 product profitably?

In order to be able to sell a cheaper product, you’d either need a great conversion rate (5% or more, which is not easy for a dropshipper or a small business owner), a fantastic funnel with all these upsells that can help you maximize your average order value (again, not as easy as it might seem), or a high customer lifetime value that will enable you to sell products to the same people over and over again (which is not something many dropshippers do).

In short: cheap products are not suited for Google Shopping (and Google Ads, in general).

How to Find WINNING Products That Will Sell Like FIRE on Google Shopping Ads

WINNING PRODUCTS – Yes, it may take a village to find and test this out, and earn huge profit in the end.

So, here are some tips and strategies on how you can find the best possible products for your Google Shopping ads, i.e. products that will sell really, really well, and can earn you A LOT of money.

This tutorial will be a bit longer, but definitely worth it as it can help you out with your ads.

What to Look for in a Product for Your Shopping Ads

So, here are some things that I’m always looking for when trying to find the ideal product:

  • +$50 in sales price — If you want to run Google Ads, you must keep in mind that the numbers will be in your favor if you pick expensive products. $50 is the minimum that I stick to when choosing products, and I recommend that you do, too. Yes, you might be able to succeed with a cheaper product, but the more expensive the product, the easier it will be for you to sell it. Remember, Google Ads is quite expensive and just because your product is cheap, doesn’t mean the ads will be, as well.
  • Low brand loyalty — If you want to sell phones, laptops, and similar items, you have to remember that people usually buy branded tech products (Apple, Samsung, etc.), which is why I think it’s a good idea to look into no-name products with little to no brand loyalty.
  • Solves a need or is functional — In the ideal scenario, your product should be able to solve a problem that people have or at least be functional. Gadgets are a good example of this — smart locks, anti-theft backpacks, and other dropshipping products that have a very specific purpose.
  • Belongs to a “deep” niche — If you run a niche store, you want your focus to be on a deep niche, because the more specific your niche is, the less the product matters. How come? If you become an authority in your niche, people will be much more likely to buy from you, because you will have exactly what they are looking for.
  • Differs from the competition i.e. it is unique — My advice is that you avoid selling the same model like everybody else — if you opt for the same one, the “price war” becomes inevitable and it gets much more difficult for you to achieve some profit.
  • Less is more, in terms of competition — This doesn’t really come as a surprise, I know, but a lot of people in the dropshipping space actually go looking for validation in order to see if there is a market for a certain product. Still, it’s always better to have less competitors and try to create your own successful niche or product. That way, people will have only you and maybe two other competitors to choose from, instead of you and 30 others.

Obviously, you don’t have to tick all of the boxes that I mentioned once you start searching for a product, but the more boxes you tick, the higher your chances get for finding that one winning product.

How to Search for Your Winning Product

I used AliExpress to find a product, but you can use any supplier that works for you. I will show you how to do a quick research for a general store product, but that can also be applied to niche store products.

Step 1: Find a Product on AliExpress

When looking for products, I recommend that you get some inspiration on the home page first. On AliExpress, you can scroll to infinity and beyond, and easily find some really hot products which you can use. You don’t necessarily have to use bestsellers, but you’ll find them on the home page, too.

Now, if you have a general store, you can use any product that you want, but my suggestion is that you go to certain categories and see if there’s anything for you in one of them.

So, let’s say that we want to use something from the Home Improvement & Tools category. I picked Night Lights as an example.

How to Set up a Google Display Campaign and Sell Products on Your E-com Store

Network type that people run varies from one affiliate to another. When it comes to E-com though, most prefer to use Shopping or Search.

In this guide, I will be sharing you some tips on how you can get started with Google’s Display network for your own business and whether it’s a good fit for you at all.

Step 1: Create a New Campaign in Google Ads

What I’ll do first is open up my Google Ads account, and click on the plus sign to create a new campaign. You want to choose to create a campaign without a goal’s guidance on the next screen.

Next, choose Display as your preferred campaign type, and then select a campaign subtype. You can either go with Standard or Gmail. In this case, we’ll be using the Standard Display campaign.

In the box below, enter your website (you can use anything if you’re just testing this out), and then click on Continue.

Now, I’ll be honest. I believe that for small and medium e-commerce businesses, the highest potential for success have Shopping ads, then Search, then YouTube (because the CPCs are so low), and then finally Display. So, why am I showing you this if it has the least potential out of the four? Because it can still be quite powerful if you do everything the right way.

Step 2: Customize Your Campaign

Give your new campaign a name — Display Campaign Test will work just fine — and then choose the location where you want your ads to be seen. Let’s choose the US, for example.
